MT CAREERS

Are you a recent graduate of a medical transcription training program or contemplating entering the medical transcription field? We receive many questions asking which school is the best for training, how do you break into the field, how much does a medical transcriptionist make, and so on. There are many great training programs available and some are on line.

A training program that provides hands-on transcription of actual doctors' dictations, anatomy, pharmacological terminology, medical terminology, strong emphasis on English grammar, are just a few of the necessities required in a "quality" training program. The medical transcription field is a tough field to break into when you are fresh out of school. A great way to get your foot in the door is to find a company or medical transcriptionist who can provide mentoring during the first year or two of your career. Some MT companies do offer mentorship programs or hire recent graduates.
Executive Transcriptions does require two years' actual on-the-job experience. We are not able to offer mentoring or internship programs at this time.

Medical transcription is also a field in which the pay is, for the most part, based on production, necessitating a high typing speed and the ability to meet stringent deadlines will be part of the daily job. A transcriptionist will also be sitting at his/her desk for extended periods of time.

While this is just a brief bit of information for those of you who may be considering a career in medical transcription, there is a wealth of information at various sites on the web. Two well-known links for the medical transcriptionist are:
